Data center cooling system commissioning

In brief

A cooling plant is ready for operation when the integrated system performs at the agreed duty, not merely when individual pieces of equipment start. Finkova installs and commissions data center cooling systems in the Nordics, with a focus on verified flows, clear interfaces and a handover the operations team can use.

The commissioning scope

Finkova's responsibility, the OEM's role and the sign-off authority are agreed in the project plan. Within that scope, our team coordinates or carries out:

  • Confirm system boundaries, drawings, test points, operating modes and acceptance criteria before testing.
  • Support cleaning, flushing, filling and water-quality checks against approved project and OEM requirements.
  • Verify measurement points, valve positions, pump operation, pressures, temperatures and flows at defined duty points.
  • Support controls and alarm checks, staged load tests and agreed fault and redundancy scenarios.
  • Record results, exceptions, corrective actions and final settings for the owner and operations team.

Interfaces that decide the outcome

Cooling commissioning crosses multiple scopes: chillers or heat rejection, FWS, CDUs, TCS, controls, electrical power and potentially heat recovery. The most useful early deliverable is an interface matrix showing the equipment owner, test owner, witnesses and acceptance authority for each system and scenario. A single integrated test plan should specify prerequisites and the sequence of isolated and combined tests.

For flow and heat balance, measure at agreed locations and operating points. A flow figure alone does not prove cooling capacity. Temperature difference, sensor quality, operating state and measurement uncertainty matter as well. Portable measurement may help investigate a disputed reading, provided the pipe and fluid conditions suit the method.

Handover to operations

Provide the agreed commissioning records, calibration and water-quality evidence, alarm and setpoint lists, as-built drawings, open-item register and maintenance baselines. Clarify who will close outstanding items and how the operating team receives training. Final acceptance follows the contract and the approved test plan.

What to send us

Share the location and programme, cooling architecture and design conditions, equipment and OEM list, draft responsibility matrix, test and acceptance requirements, and the intended operations handover date. We will define a practical commissioning scope with your project team.

Discuss the delivery scope

Send the project inputs listed above, or call us to define responsibilities, schedule and next steps.
