In brief
A CDU connects the technology cooling system (TCS) to the facility water system (FWS), and its commissioning decides whether the hall goes live on schedule. Finkova installs and commissions CDUs on live data center projects in Finland and delivers the same work across the Nordics. We install to the OEM's instructions and warranty terms, document every step and hand over a working, tested system.
Where Finkova fits
Finkova provides the site organisation between the OEM, the owner and the other contractors. The OEM remains responsible for its technology, and the scope, acceptance criteria and country-specific requirements are agreed for each project before work starts.
- Site planning: delivery sequence, access, lifting and installation interfaces.
- Mechanical and electrical interfaces: connections, instrumentation, controls and trade work against approved drawings.
- Pre-commissioning: inspections, flushing, pressure testing and cleanliness verification to the agreed procedure.
- Commissioning: start-up, flow balancing, alarms, control sequences and redundancy checks with the OEM.
- Handover: test results, deviations, as-built information and open items for acceptance.
A practical delivery sequence
1. Agree the boundaries. Identify who supplies the CDU, who owns TCS and FWS piping, water quality, power, controls, leak detection and IT-side connections, and who signs off each test.
2. Prepare the system. Confirm installation readiness, compatible materials, isolation and sampling points, filling and flushing arrangements, and access for service. Follow the OEM's approved coolant and cleanliness limits.
3. Test in stages. Pressure and leak tests, flushing results, sensor readings, flow and pressure at agreed operating points, and the response to faults and loss of power.
4. Hand over evidence. Test records, settings, exceptions, training inputs and a clear list of outstanding actions, together with the baseline that later measurements are compared against.
Flows are verified with a portable clamp-on ultrasonic meter, which measures from outside the pipe without opening the loop.
What to send us
Send the project location and schedule, CDU manufacturer and model, quantities, TCS/FWS design conditions and schematics, the proposed scope split, the commissioning plan and the service coverage you need.
Frequently asked questions
Does Finkova install CDUs for OEMs?
Yes. CDU installation and commissioning is familiar work for Finkova on live data center projects. We work to the manufacturer's instructions and warranty terms, and the OEM keeps responsibility for its technology.
Why is flushing done before the cold plates are connected?
Weld scale, swarf and gasket debris from installation would otherwise end up in the cold plate channels, where they cannot be removed. The loop is flushed and its cleanliness verified by measurement before connection.
How are CDU flows verified at commissioning?
Loop by loop with a portable clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter. It measures from outside the pipe, so the loop is not opened, and the same instrument also checks the fixed meters.
